The Tang dynasty was founded by Emperor Gaozu on June 18, 618. It was called the golden age of Chinese culture and civilization. It was considered to be the most prosperous period of China with significant developments in culture, art, literature, particularly poetry, and technology.
During the Tang dynasty, Buddhism basically became the predominant religion for the common people. Chang'an (modern Xi'an), the national capital, was the largest and the most populous city in the world.
Also, the Tang dynasty was called an imperial dynasty of China preceded by the Sui dynasty and followed by the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period.
