The University of Nebraska has 329 all sport all time CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-Americans.

The second ranked institution as of 2017 is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with 271 followed by the University of Notre Dame with 255 and Stanford University with 213.

Nebraska leads in football with 107 Academic All-Americans, followed by Penn State with 65, Notre Dame with 60, University of Dayton with 56 and Ohio State University with 53. Nebraska leads in women's softball with 30 and women's volleyball with 38.

Nomination criteria include a 3.3 grade point average on a 4 point scale, at least sophomore athletic status and participation in at least 50% of their team's contests at the same position. All District teams are then selected from the nominees. The All District winners appear on the final ballot for selection by the Academic All-America Committee and the CoSIDA Board of Directors.
