The Indian film industry is the largest producer of movies in the world. After India, the United States was the second top producer, followed by China, Japan and France.

The Indian film industry is popularly known as Bollywood. However, Bollywood is only the Hindi speaking industry of India. The other industries are the Bengali, Malyali, Kannada film industry (popularly known as Tollywood, Mollywood etc). Together all these industries are called the Indian film industry.

Unlike the US and Canada where films are created in one language, films in India are created in about 35 languages limiting the film to a particular group of people.
