Whitney Houston made a highly successful transition from music star to feature films with her first role in the 1992 blockbuster, The Bodyguard. After making this film, her other starring roles earned more than a half billion dollars at the box office. In addition to acting, Whitney became a very successful producer of movies which include: Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, The Princess Diaries, and The Cheetah Girls series.

The official coroner's report showed that she had accidentally drowned in the bathtub, with heart disease and cocaine use listed as contributing factors. She was 48 years old when she died. It was noted by fans and critics that she was a star who transcended her race globally. Her work sold in countries where black artists did not sell.

It's difficult to call Whitney Houston a dilettante. Her career spanned 27 years, from her debut album in 1985 until her death in 2012.

Bill, im with you. For those would like to reduce people to their lowest faults ("Drug-addled Dilettante") I say, take a look at your own lives. Would you like all the good that you've done in your life to be forgotten because you made a few personal mistakes?
I'd like to add to your statement. We shouldn't forget that Houston donated much of her time and money to charitable causes.

After the September 11, 2001 attacks, Arista Records re-released Houston's "The Star Spangled Banner". She once again donated her share of the royalties, as did Arista Records, towards the firefighters and victims of the terrorist attacks. This time the single peaked at #6 on the US Hot 100, and was certified platinum by the RIAA. This made Houston the first musical act to take the national anthem Top 10 in the US, and have it certified platinum. The 2001 re-release of the single was Houston's last Top Ten hit on the US Hot 100 during her lifetime.

The lack of empathy, the incapacity to be sorry for others, the utter lack of comprehnsion of what addiction is hen they are probably addicted to lessr drugs ( cafeine, food, internet... ) is diheartening. She had a range that was rare, and could sing just about any song! Please, don’t discount her drug addiction; it ruined her voice completely! And, what about her daughter? She really was the most important person here! She needed a mother that didn’t go on toots for days at a time! She never had any intention for quitting! Her life was very sad.
