The first of the new Star Wars standalone films is called "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" (Rogue One). It is an all-new epic adventure from Lucasfilm. It is a Gareth Edwards prequel film that on its 39th day of release earned over $1 billion for the Disney Company. Worldwide Rogue One is the second highest-grossing film of 2016. Also Disney is home to all four 2016 movies that worldwide earned $1 billion or more: Captain America: Civil War ($1.153 billion), Pixar/Disney's Finding Dory ($1.028 billion) and Disney Animation Studios' Zootopia ($1.024). Rogue One is the 28th movie to earn $1 billion or more globally, not accounting for inflation.

Because most audiences in the world are familiar with the characters and overall Star Wars saga, Disney is extremely successful in getting people globally to pay to see a movie with a Star Wars tagline and story idea. Rogue One is truly no different. Just note the story.

Here in a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire's ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars saga and timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things. By doing so, they become part of something greater than themselves.

Here Star Wars fans are not too confused or bored with the standalone story; this ultimately means that they should come to future 'Star Wars' installments.
