Joseph Frank "Buster" Keaton (1895-1966) was an American actor, stunt performer, writer, director and producer. Famous for his performances in silent films where he trademarked his physical comedy with his consistent deadpan expression earning him the nickname "The Great Stone Face." From 1920-1929 Buster Keaton worked uninterrupted on a series of films that make him, arguably, the greatest film actor/director in the history of the movies. Keaton was recognized as the seventh greatest film director and the twenty first greatest film star of Classic Hollywood Cinema. Orson Welles once stated that Keaton's silent film The General is the greatest comedy ever made, the greatest Civil War film ever made, and perhaps the greatest film ever made. Buster Keaton was married three times and had two sons from his first marriage.
