Jack Kemp was an ex-quarterback, U.S. congressman, executive cabinet member, one-time vice-presidential nominee, and self described "bleeding heart conservative" who lived from July 13, 1935 until May 2, 2009. He died at age 73.

Specifically, Kemp was an American politician and a professional AFL / NFL football player, who played for over 13 years for both the San Diego Chargers and Buffalo Bills. As a Republican, he served as Housing Secretary (Cabinet Official) in the administration of President George H. W. Bush from 1989 to 1993. He had previously served nine terms as a congressman for New York's 31st congressional district from 1971 to 1989. In the 1996 election, he was the Republican Party's nominee for Vice President, where he was the running mate of presidential nominee Bob Dole. He had previously sought the presidential nomination in the 1988 Republican primaries.

In 2009, Jack Kemp was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama.
