Presidential pastimes range from the sublime to the ridiculous. From Thomas Jefferson fiddling with architecture and George Bush the elder jumping out of airplanes in his golden years, to Bill Clinton's saxophone playing and Barack Obama's Marvel Comic collecting, many presidents look for a vacation from politics and pressure during and after office.

Lyndon Johnson, John Kennedy's vice president and successor, enjoyed flashing his gallbladder scar and drunkenly driving his Texas ranch guests into a lake in an amphibious convertible. The car was made by a German company and called the Amphicar.

The most famous of the 4,000 produced from 1961-1968, and one of the remaining 2000, was Johnson's, who is said to have hollered to his guests, "The brakes don’t work! The brakes won’t hold! We’re going in! We’re going under! "

His beloved ranch,"Stonewall" was known as the Texas White House from 1963 to the end of his term in 1969, Commonly referred to as the LBJ Ranch, it is now the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historic Park. Visitors can take a self or guided tour and view the Amphicar, among several other of the Johnsons' personal fleet, as well as his personal Presidential jet.

Located 50 miles west of Austin, Texas, the ranch is also the site of the Johnson family cemetery. Johnson, who died in 1973, is buried here, along side his wife and former first lady Claudia Alta Taylor Johnson, who passed away in 2007.
