Neither the Greeks nor the Trojans seemed to be able to win the Trojan War. Then one of the Greek kings, Odysseus of Ithaca, had an idea. "Build a big wooden horse on wheels," he said, "big enough for a bunch of our Greek soldiers to hide inside it." So the Greeks did as Odysseus suggested. They used a huge hollow wooden horse to get into the city of Troy.

Because this classical tale from mythology survived, it is now known that Odysseus's idea was a great success. The gigantic hollow wooden horse, left by the Greeks upon their pretended abandonment of the siege of Troy fooled the Trojans. The Trojan people took their gift (the impressive horse) into Troy and Greek soldiers concealed in the horse opened the gates to the Greek army at night and conquered the city.
