The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews is one of the oldest and most prestigious golf clubs in the world. It is based in St Andrews, Fife, Scotland, and is regarded as the worldwide "Home of Golf". The links at St. Andrews are on a narrow strip of land by the sea and originally golf was played to holes that were naturally placed. There were 11 holes, so a round of golf was played (there and back) for a total of 22 holes. Eventually some of the holes were combined to make a total of 18.

The prestigious Royal and Ancient Golf Club, St. Andrews interestingly enough now has approximately 2,400 members from all over the world. It is currently the The St. Andrews Links Trust that actually owns and operates all the St. Andrews Link golf courses at St. Andrews.

Thus, it is still true that golf enthusiasts from around the world love to visit and play golf at St. Andrews in Scotland.
