In Super Bowl XV (Oakland vs. Philadelphia), Rod Martin caught the most (three) interceptions against a quarterback. As the right side linebacker for the Oakland Raiders, Rod Martin recorded a Super Bowl record three interceptions in a 27-10 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Many of the fans were genuinely pleased to see a linebacker make history by getting three interceptions in the same game.

Veteran linebacker Ted Hendricks explained, "The Eagles absolutely felt they could exploit Rod Martin. They decided to attack the right side of our defense, away from me. They tested Rod the whole game, and all they got out of it was three interceptions."

When the Raiders' Rod Martin first intercepted Ron Jaworski and set Oakland up nicely for a touchdown, it was a true indication for the Raiders that they could win the Super Bowl. Also, with the three interceptions for Martin (who had come back into the league as a free agent), this normally should have earned him the MVP award. He didn't win the award. It was also Jim Plunkett's moment to shine, and he won the MVP award for Super Bowl XV.
