The 27 Club is one whose membership consists of musicians who died at the age of 27. There is a mystique about this age, when in fact more have died at 28 and the most have passed away at 56.

Some of the most famous, Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Jim Morrison all died at the age of 27 between 1969 and 1971. At the time, the coincidence gave rise to some comment but it was not until the death of Kurt Cobain, 23 years later, that the idea of a "27 Club" began to catch on in public perception.

And while the deaths of some of the better known artists were drug related, over 50 of the 65 deaths of club members can be attributed to automotive/plane accidents, death by misadventure, suicide, murder and medical complications.

Still the directory of notables is extensive and some go back as far as 1892. One catalog mentions Alexandre Levy, a composer, pianist and conductor who died on January 17, 1892 of unknown causes .

The latest musician to 'join' this group, lead vocalist and lyricist for Shinee, Kim Jong-hyun died on December 18, 2017. The cause of death was attributed to suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning.

Keith Moon was 32.
