The sartorius muscle is the longest muscle. It is originated from pelvic bone from a point called anterior superior iliac spine. Extending downward across anteromedial side of the thigh passing the knee to insert at the medial surface of tibia bone, it flexes both hip and knee joints.

The name came from latin word "sartor" meaning "tailor" and it is sometimes called tailor' s muscle.
