Robert John Downey Jr. (born April 4, 1965) is an American actor and singer. His career has included critical and popular success in his youth, followed by a period of substance abuse and legal troubles, and a resurgence of commercial success in middle age. For three consecutive years from 2012 to 2015, Downey topped the Forbes list of Hollywood's highest-paid actors, making an estimated $80 million in earnings between June 2014 and June 2015.

In 1992, he starred as Charlie Chaplin in Chaplin, a role for which he prepared extensively, learning how to play the violin as well as tennis left-handed. He had a personal coach in order to help him imitate Chaplin's posture, and a way of carrying himself. The role garnered Downey an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor at the Academy Awards 65th ceremony, losing to Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman.

Sandy Roberts-Anderson, You are right Robert did let his demons get the better of him, but he also overcame those demons! It did not affect his ability to act, and he still remains a good actor... The fact that he had a "Hiccup" in his career, didn't stop him from getting on with his career, like many people who have turned to drugs or alcohol for a crutch, they can overcome their 'Demons' and carry on!
