Both the presidents had to change surnames at an early age due to their mothers' remarriages.

Gerald Ford was born as Leslie Lynch King, Jr. on the 14th of July, 1913. His parents separated soon after his birth, and Gerald's mother took her two-week-old baby to Grand Rapids, Michigan, to live with her parents. In 1916 she married a paint salesman, Gerald R. Ford, who became a new father for her son. The future president was called Gerald R. Ford, Jr. since then, but it became his official name only on the 3rd of December, 1935.

Bill Clinton was born as William Jefferson Blythe III in Hope, Arkansas, to Virginia Dell (Cassidy) and William Jefferson Blythe, Jr., a traveling salesman. Unfortunately, his father died in a car crash three months before Bill was born. His mother had to leave for Louisiana to study nursing and support herself and her child. Bill was raised by his grandparents, and when he was 4 years old his mother remarried. Roger Clinton became Bill's step-father, and the boy took his surname.
