The 1984 - 1996 U.S. TV drama series shown on CBS that was set in Cabot Cove, Maine was called "Murder, She Wrote". During the series whether at home in cozy Cabot Cove or on the road promoting her popular mystery novels, charming author Jessica Fletcher (Angela Lansbury) always encounters cold-blooded murders.

Jessica is a retired English teacher who, after being widowed in her early 50s, becomes a very successful mystery writer. While researching stories and meeting people, she often finds that she must cleverly solve the homicide by using her intellect and astounding skills of deduction. Never letting her success go to her head, she remained a devoted resident of Cabot Cove and maintained links with all of her steadfast friends.

Murders are part of the essence of the show but they are shown with little or no graphic portrayal of violence. The series succeeded by portraying murder by mere implication, in lieu of any extended graphic murder scenes. The main focus was upon how the crime will be solved by Jessica.

Lansbury, who was nominated for an Emmy in each of her 12 seasons, stars in this successful whodunit alongside series regular actors like Tom Bosley, William Windom and Michael Horton.

Cabot Cove, Maine had a murder rate to rival that of Chicago. And, the one thing the killings had in common was Jessica Fletcher. Suspicious.

I think Jessica Fletcher is the boldest serial killer of all time. Using her noteriety as a mystery novelist to involve herself in the investigation she then would remove and plant evidence as the situation required and pin it on some hated rival. Another 2 for 1 murder.

It was pretty much the only good thing to watch in Sunday prime time when I was a kid in the 80s. I watched into the 90s, then Seaquest dsv showed up and Lois and Clark and I was definitely watching Lois and Clark. Murder She Wrote was gone in a year.

Murder, She Wrote, would feature what would be considered today to be cozy mystery plots. A murder occurs, usually off-camera, or off stage, and the show itself focuses on finding whodunnit. I believe Dame Agatha Christie was one of the earliest proponents of the cozy mystery in novels and short stories. Although I believe Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famed detective stories featuring Sherlock Holmes, were also cozy mysteries, with the murders usually happening off stage, and the focus of the plot being on solving the crime, not the crime itself.
