On Saturday, June 16, 2012, Monica Abbott, a left hander, was called in as a relief pitcher for the Chicago Bandits in the bottom of the 6th inning with two out, two on base, and the winning run at bat, with an 0-1 count, against the Carolina Diamonds in an NPF (National Professional Fastpitch) League game.

The NPF is a women's softball league.

Monica delivered her first pitch, an underhand low rise pitch clocked at 77 mph, setting a new American record. The old record was 75 mph.

She was also a Silver Medalist at the 2008 Olympics, and has thrown the only perfect game in Olympic Women's history against The Netherlands in 2008.

As of 2016, she is with the Texas Scrap Yard Dawgs.

Laura Winter played for Texas A&M.

Tatum Edwards currently plays for the Chicago Bandits.

Angel Burner currently plays for the Chicago Bandits.

To give you some perspective from a batter's reaction time standpoint: A 77 mph ball in softball @ 43' would be equivalent to a 107 mph ball delivered in MLB @ 60'.
