William Stanley Mazeroski (born September 5, 1936), is an American former Major League Baseball (MLB) second baseman. Nicknamed "Maz", he spent his entire 17-year career playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates, from 1956–72. He was elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001.

Mazeroski is regarded as one of the greatest defensive second basemen of all time. He was an All-Star for seven seasons and a Gold Glove Award winner for eight seasons. He was a key member of the Pirates' World Series-winning teams in 1960 and 1971, and is perhaps best known for his walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning in game 7 of the 1960 World Series—the only game 7 walk-off homer in World Series history.

I suppose if you are American you would of understood what was said in the question. I have no idea what a walk off home run or the bottom of the ninth inning means. Also why did you not mention the team he scored this run for ... think it is a vital part.

Keith Richard Mears, no need to ridicule. It's based on a historical event. In 1903, the owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates (the best team in the National League) challenged the owner of the Boston Red Sox (the best team in the American League) to a World's Championship Series. At that time, these truly were the best teams in the world. Boston won the championship series of 5 games. The event has been repeated each year since, excluding a couple of years during WWII. The name of the championship, over time, was shortened to simply the world series.
