When it comes to the development of lighting rods, we may initially think of Benjamin Franklin and his electricity-related experiments. Prokop Diviš is a scientist who is not too well known. But he happens to be the first guy to discover and use the grounded lighting rod. He took these actions in the 18th century, and his discovery is still being used in today's modern infrastructures.

Dom Prokop Diviš (March 1698 to December 1765) was a Czech canon regular, theologian, and natural scientist. From 1736 to 1741, he served as pastor of a local parish. While working in the parish, he was responsible for the management of farms owned by the parish. He became interested in water conduits and electricity while working on the farm. He then began a series of successful experiments. In 1754 while experimenting with electricity and metallic conductors, Diviš was able to develop one of the first grounded lightning rod.
