Rick Mercer is pictured during one of his famous rants on his show, "The Rick Mercer Report". Mercer, born on October 17, 1969 in Newfoundland Canada, is a comedian, television personality, political satirist, and author.

Prior to the, "Rick Mercer Report", he worked with other comedians on the show, "This Hour has 22 Minutes". In the first eight seasons of the show, Mercer provided some of the show's signature moments, including an internet petition to force the Canadian Alliance leader Stockwell Day to change his first name to Doris. A popular segment of the show included, 'Talking to Americans', in which he would travel to various locations and probe how knowledgeable Americans were about Canada. During one of the segments he asked Americans' opinion on whether Canada should change its "20-hour clock" to the 24-hour one used by the United States. He received approval from citizens and from the Governor of Iowa, Tom Vilsack. He also initiated his two minute rants, in which he would speak directly to the camera about a current political issue, urging viewers to demand change. These rants continued to be a key feature of his own show, "The Rick Mercer Report".

Guests on the, "Rick Mercer Report" included former Prime Ministers Paul Martin, Jean Chretien, Stephan Harper, various Ministers of Parliament, Sarah McLachlan, Conrad Black, and the Barenaked Ladies.

Mercer has received more than 25 Gemini Awards for his work on television.
