Purnendu Pattrea (this is the correct spelling of his name) is an unsung genius of Bengal/India. He is a poet, writer. Illustrator, designer. He was a painter and a successful film director. As a poet, he has more than 30 books. As a novelist, he has at least 15 books. As a short/long story writer he has round about 20 books. As an essay writer (serious and soft) he has 30+ books. He has designed roughly five thousand book covers (including books and magazines). He was a specialist in Bengali typography and calligraphy. He was the Art Director of a renowned newspaper house of Kolkata/India for 12 years. He has completed five movies, and three are incomplete. Besides he has directed 4 documentaries, also a short film for TV, based on Abanindranath Tagore's 'Khirer Putul'. All of them has fetched him at least one award in Bengal/India. His second movie 'Strir Potra' (A letter from a wife) based on a short story by Rabindranath Tagore, got him international and national awards. His untimely death, only at the age of 64, made a irreparable void in Indian cultural domain. In the Picture above Purnendu is seen with the famous heroine Suchitra Sen, for the movie 'Chaturanga' again based on a Tagore's novel of the same name. This movie remain incomplete, for a sudden death of the Producer.
