Who is the first American of the Jewish faith to win a US presidential primary of a major political party (Democratic or Republican)?
Bernard "Bernie" Sanders is a US statesman and a Senator from Vermont. He was born to Jewish parents and identifies as culturally Jewish, but he is not a religious person. Some believe him to be the most independent member of Congress. Every person to win a US presidential primary of a major party before Sanders was a Christian. So, he became the first Jewish and non-Christian in this position. He is also the first self-described democratic socialist.

There's no such thing as "the presidential primary". The question is "a" primary not "the" primary. To date Sanders has won 17 primaries and caucuses. For what it's worth I got the question wrong because I thought that the correct answer was Lieberman.

Donna Means, That's who I picked also. That ticket lost the election with 200,000 more votes than Bush, while DT won over HC, despite her 2 to 3 million vote margin. Someone has really done their work in those intervening 16 years.

This question is not correctly stated and the answer is wrong! Joe Lieberman was the first to win a primary presidential race. He was on the Gore ticket and they won the popular vote but not the electoral.
