Richard Denning (March 27, 1914 – October 11, 1998) was a prominent American actor most famous for starring in science fiction films of the 1950s, including Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954), Unknown Island (1948), Target Earth (1954), Day the World Ended (1955), and The Black Scorpion (1957). Denning also appeared in the well-known film An Affair to Remember (1957) with Cary Grant and on the radio with Lucille Ball, as George and Liz Cooper, in My Favorite Husband (1948–1951), the forerunner of television's I Love Lucy.

Glad I used a double chance... sure looks like a young Robert Young, but I recognized the face, and knew it wasn't the other 2.

Unless you were a fan of old sci fi movies from the 50's or watched An Affair to Remember (Deborah Kerr/Cary Grant version), you probably wouldn't recognize Richard Denning, or have ever even heard of him! He was never a big name movie star and his claim to fame(?) would have been playing the leading man's or lady's best friend.

I don't know if starring in the genre that gave us "Creature from the Black Lagoon" would make you a 'prominent actor', but I did watch many of his movies in my early teens, typically on Saturday night, brought to us by classic TV shows like "Shock Threater".
