Lyudmila Pavlichenko sniped a confirmed 309 Axis soldiers, including 36 German snipers, during WWII. She still holds the record for the highest confirmed kill total of any female sniper in history. Pavlichenko died on October 10, 1974 at age 58.

Pavlichenko’s war record was recognized in the Soviet Union by two commemorative stamps with her portrait and in the United States, by a song ("Miss Pavlichenko") composed during World War II by folk singer Woody Guthrie, as a tribute to her war record and to memorialize her visits to the United States and Canada.

Golda Meir, while reputed to be an Israeli sniper during the War for Independence, went on to become the Prime minister of Israel.

Senior Sergeant Roza Shanina,Shanina was one of the more well known female snipers in history. As a marksman she amassed 59 confirmed kills in her very short career. She rose to command the 1st Sniper Platoon (184th Rifle Division). She was killed while shielding a commanding officer during an artillery attack at the young age of 20.

Second Lieutenant Simo Häyhä, Finnish Army Simo Häyhä is the single most successful sniper in military history. Nicknamed the “White Death” for his totally white camouflage and eerie white mask he wore in combat, the Finnish marksman amassed at least 505 confirmed sniper kills during the Winter War between Finland and the Soviet Union.

Häyhä recorded all of his sniper kills without using an optic. His rifle was equipped only with iron sights.
