Freddie Starr is an English comedian, impressionist, singer and actor. Starr was the lead singer of Merseybeat pop group The Midniters during the early 1960s, and came to prominence in the early 1970s after appearing on Opportunity Knocks and the Royal Variety Performance.

Freddie is well-known for his famous trick, which even became the basis for one of the best known headlines of the British newspapers. FREDDIE STARR ATE MY HAMSTER - many people of the epoch remember this phrase appearing as The Sun's headline on the 13th of March, 1986. And what was the accident? Starr was claimed to have returned home from a performance in the early hours of the morning and demanded that his girlfriend make him a sandwich. When she refused, he went into the kitchen and put her pet hamster Supersonic between two slices of bread and proceeded to eat it.

Even if Starr got his name mentioned by the newspaper article, which became a true hit, he later said that the story was a terrible fabrication! As Freddie wrote in his autobiography, he had never eaten small animals, moreover, he didn't even stay at that unfortunate house that night. Perhaps, it's impossible to find out the truth, but one thing is clear: Freddie will be always associated not only with his performances, but also with this curious hamster story as well.
