The 1925 version, far lesser known than the famous 1939 version with Judy Garland, was the second screen version of Frank L. Baum's novel. Preceding this was the 1910 film entitled The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (Baum's original title) which was not a full-length film but a 13-minute short more common for the time period.

Other shorts and special versions attached to the title exist before the 1925 film but the most closely related stories and adaptations are the 1910,1925 versions as they relate to Judy Garland's portrayal.

Casual viewers and die-hard fans alike enjoyed the 1925 version as a fantastic foray into Baum's creative world that had Dorothy challenged by life's unfortunate condition with personal and external circumstance that seemed impossible to overcome. We know the ending and lesson that allows us to enjoy the story over and over again.
