Roger Charles Carmel (9/27/32 – 11/11/86), a Brooklyn, New York native, portrayed Harcourt Fenton Mudd in two episodes of the original “Star Trek” series, “Mudd’s Women” and “I, Mudd”. According to “Memory Alpha”, Mr. Carmel was the only guest star to reprise a character on the original series.

Mr. Carmel also voiced the character for one episode of “Star Trek: The Animated Series.” He was slated to appear as Mudd in a first-season episode of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” but passed away from congestive heart failure before filming.

In “Star Trek”, Mudd claimed that he ventured deeper and deeper into space to escape being henpecked by his wife, Stella. Mr. Carmel also portrayed Roger Buell on “The Mothers-in-Law”, also during the mid-1960’s. Buell also had a nagging wife.

Mr. Carmel appeared in guest roles on several television shows of the era, and was a regular on “Pantomime Quiz”, which was also known as “Stump the Stars”. He appeared in films, including “Myra Breckinridge”, “Thunder and Lightning”, “The Silencers”, and “Gambit”.

He lent his voice to film and television characters from “Smoky Bear” to “Cyclonus” in the “Transformers” TV series, and appeared as “Señor Naugles” in ads for the Naugles chain of Mexican restaurants.
