The world's highest denomination note is Hungary 100 Million B-Pengo (American 100 Quintillion Pengo)*, issued in 1946. That's 100,000,000,000,000,000,000 Pengo. It was worth about U.S. $0.20 in 1946. Hungary also printed a 1 Milliard B-Pengo (Amerian 1 Sextillion Pengo)*, 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 Pengo, note in 1946. Overtaken by inflation, it was never in circulation.

The largest denomination bank note ever issued was the one hundred trillion dollar note by the Department Treasury for the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, Africa.

It is my understanding that notes with face values of up to one sextillion dollars were printed but never entered circulation. This took place in post WW II Hungary. Instead of placing these notes into circulation, a new currency, the forint, was introduced at an exchange rate of four hundred octillion dollars for one forint. I may never complain about inflation again.

Didn't the United States print the first $1,000,000.00 note more than 240 years ago? I saw on television once that Santa's picture was on the note. This was back in the days when each state was printing it's own currency.
