When John McCafferty received his heart transplant on June 20, 1982 he was told he had only five years to live.

In those days transplant surgery was still in its infancy and sadly many recipients of new organs didn’t live for long.

However, he lived an amazing 33 years, 7 months and 28 days, passing away on February 10, 2016 at the age of 73 from sepsis and kidney failure.

The Guinness Book of World Records recognized him as the "Longest Surviving Heart Transplant Patient in 2013.

The mathematician who plotted the Apollo 11 Moon mission was Katherine Johnson.

The NASA astronaut who calmly talked the crew of Apollo 13 back from the moon after an oxygen tank exploded, impairing the mission before they got to the moon, was actually a team from NASA CapCom, Houston, TX...
