In 1968, she met another Southerner, actor Lee Majors, star of the popular TV series The Big Valley (1965), on a blind date set up by their publicists. He became very taken with her and also used his own standing to promote her career. In 1969, she made her film debut in Love Is a Funny Thing. The next year, she appeared in the film adaptation of the Gore Vidal bestselling novel Myra Breckinridge (1970). The shooting was very unpleasant, with much feuding on the set, and Farrah was embarrassed by the finished film, which was a major failure. But Farrah was undamaged and continued to win roles. In 1973, she and Majors got married.

Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O'Neal were long time partners but never married.

Farrah Fawcett was the woman who creamed Joe Namath in the television commercial. She was one of stars of "Charlie's Angels" but didn't stay very long. Fawcett was the only Angel to pose for a poster, although the offer was made to all, and it became one of most successful pin-ups ever. Ryan O'Neill and many people who knew Fawcett well said she was a rarity in that she was a stunningly beautiful woman who was very kind to other women. There was no guile in her personality toward other people. O'Neill aksed her why she wore the big hair and she told him that it enabled her to hide behind it. She was much more reserved than people realized. Perhaps her best performance was her starring role in "The Burning Bed," about an abused woman who fights back against her tormentor. She was also good as Richard Gere's emotionally fragile wife in a terrific Robert Altman film, the title of which I only vaguely recall about a doctor and the many women who cross his path.
