John Adams, Jr. (October 30 [O.S. October 19] 1735 – July 4, 1826) became one of the most influential figures of the American Revolution. Adams was one of the first people to criticize Great Britain's authority and talk about defending people's freedom. He became one of the American Founding Fathers and served as the first Vice President of the USA (1789–97). He became the second US President in 1797 and served until 1801. After retiring from presidency Adams became a prolific author and wrote many books and letters.
