Saturday Night Live is a late-night live television variety show that has aired on NBC since its debut on 11 October 1975. For its first two years, it was just known as NBC's Saturday Night. The show's sketches parody contemporary politics and culture.

The show was created by Lorne Michaels and developed by Dick Ebersol. As of 19 May 2018, there has been 43 seasons, 850 episodes, and over 140 cast members. Many cast members and writers have gone on to have successful careers in film and television.

George Carlin (May 12, 1937 – June 22, 2008) was an American stand-up comedian, actor, author, and social critic. He was known for his black comedy and reflections on politics, psychology, religion, and various taboo subjects. As host of Saturday Night, he performed stand-up, introduced the musical guests, conducted the goodnight segment, and performed three monologues.
