Harry Bernard Allen (5 November 1911 – 14 August 1992) was appointed Chief Executioner in 1955. However he was an executioner beginning in 1941. He acted as assistant executioner for 14 years, mostly to Albert Pierrepoint from 1941 to 1955.

Though because of the American movie, Pierrepoint, many think that he was the last executioner. Pierpoint resigned in 1955 over a dispute concerning his fees.

The last executions in Britain took place on 13 August 1964, when Gwynne Owen Evans was hanged at 8.00 am at Strangeways Prison by Harry Allen with his assistant Royston Rickard, while Peter Anthony Allen was hanged simultaneously at Walton Prison, Liverpool by Robert Leslie Stewart with his assistant Harry Robinson, both for the murder in a robbery of John Alan West.

Allen's most controversial hanging came in April 1962, when James Hanratty was hanged for murder, despite efforts to clear his name.
