Aneurin Bevan (1897-1960) was a Labour Party politician who is highly honored within the British Labour Movement. Born in Wales, the son of a coal miner, he became aware of the hardship suffered by poor working-class people. He became a stalwart supporter and advocate for social justice and believed that democratic socialism would address societal inequality. He became the Minister for Health in the post-war Labour Government (1945-1951), under the leadership of Prime Minister, Clement Attlee. He is renowned for establishing the National Health Service in Britain which provides medical treatment and healthcare, free at the point of need to all Britons.
