The only American born member of the British TV comedy series "Monty Python's Flying Circus" (1969 - 1974) was Terrence Vance "Terry" Gilliam. He is an American born British screenwriter, film director, animator, actor, comedian, and member of the Monty Python comedy troupe.

Individuals and colleagues who worked with Gilliam know that he was the only American in the group. This was a minor reason why he appears occasionally on screen and his roles were generally non-speaking or only with few lines. Gilliam's primary contributions to the show were the animated sequences that were "linked" to the various live sketches. They were one of the the key components that set Flying Circus apart from other comedy acts. The animated escapades provided some of the most memorable elements of the sit-com series.
