Louisa Catherine Johnson was born on the 12th of February, 1775 to a London family of an English woman and an American merchant. She was one of the six sisters and also had a brother. She met John Quincy Adams at her father's house, and the future president first was interested in Louisa's sister. Anyway, things changed, and he married her when she was 22, in 1797. John was 30 at that point of time. Louisa changed her name to Louisa Catherine Johnson Adams, and in 1825 became the First Lady of the US. By this name she is also known as the only US First Lady in history to be born outside the US. By the way, Adams' father, then president, was first going to prevent his son from marrying a woman born outside the country. Later he welcomed his son's beloved into the family anyway.
