Of the many great race horses in history only 1 has won horse of the year 5 times. From 1960 to 1964 Kelso dominated horse racing and was loved by the people. Owned by the Dupont family, trained by Carl Hanford and ridden primarily by Eddie Arcaro. He won 11 consecutive races in 1960-1961, a feat few race horses can claim, set 9 track records in his time and still holds the World Record time for two miles on dirt of 3:19. set in the 1964 Jockey Club Gold Cup. After a 2nd career as a show jumper he finally retired and lived until October 16, 1983.
