On the first season of "Solid Gold" (1980 - 1988), the show was hosted by Dionne Warwick who was aided by comedian Marty Cohen. The veteran Los Angeles DJ, Robert W. Morgan was announcing feature performances. After Warwick left the series, singers Andy Gibb and Marilyn McCoo were brought in as co-hosts.

"Solid Gold" was created by Al Masini as part of his Operation Prime Time production unit. It was developed by Bob Banner and produced by Brad Lachman Productions for all eight of its seasons. At the start of show's first season, Michael Miller was chosen by Dionne Warwick, to be the show's musical director. Miller stayed on for the entire series and composed the theme song for "Solid Gold" with Academy Award winning songwriter Dean Pitchford.

Besides the enjoyable music and singers who appeared on the show, it also had the 'Solid Gold Dancers'. They were the only visual accompaniment to the music that was played. These dancers were a dozen or so (in skimpy costumes) who would perform interpretive renditions of such hits songs as "Down Under" and "Maniac". The dancers, music, and host (starting with Warwick) were all major reasons why this show became a big hit!
