Who was the Roman Emperor that built a wall across northern Britainnia in the second century?

Hadrian (Latin: Publius Aelius Hadrianus Augustus, January 24, 76 – July 10,138) was Roman emperor from 117 to 138 AD. Hadrian is known for building Hadrian's Wall, which marked the northern limit of Britannia.

Hadrian's Wall (Latin: Vallum Aelium), also called the Roman Wall or Vallum Hadriani in Latin, was a defensive fortification in the Roman province of Britannia, begun in 122 AD in the reign of the emperor Hadrian. It ran from the banks of the River Tyne near the North Sea to the Solway Firth on the Irish Sea, and was the northern limit of the Roman Empire.

Today, in 2016, a significant portion of the wall still stands and can be followed on foot along the adjoining Hadrian's Wall Path. It is the most popular tourist attraction in Northern England and was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.

When I was a boy and lived in Northumbria my Father and I walked frequently along sections of the wall and also went to 2 of the camps that were built by Hadrian - Borca Vicus and Corstopitum. The wall goes through some pretty rough scenery and is well worth seeing. Wallsend in Northumberland is called that as this was where the wall ended (pretty obvious I would have thought). There is also a small section of the wall that lies very much within the boundaries of the city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne

spg cool dude, You should HAVE paid more attention during grammar lessons. It can be "should have" or "should've", but NEVER "should of".

People write should "of" because that how we pronounce "should've," but, hopefully, they paid attention in English class enough to know the difference between "should have" (correct) and "should of (so wrong!).

Pat Wells, I don’t know who or what you are replying to but I couldn’t agree more with you, it’s been a pet hate of mine from the first time I heard it, I even won a bet about “should of” being totally wrong with an English native speaker, which was never honoured but I just had to prove a point and hopefully get at least one person to stop saying it 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Ian Swindale, beautiful part of the country. I live very near its northern neighbour in Caledonia. Not so much left to see as it was built mainly of turf on a stone foundation.
