McKinley led the nation to victory in the Spanish–American War, raised protective tariffs to promote American industry, and maintained the nation on the gold standard in a rejection of inflationary proposals.
McKinley was the US President when Queen Victoria died at 6:30 p.m. on January 22, 1901, surrounded by her family, at the Osborne House on the Isle of Wight.

I went with Cleveland because he served the longest even though I thought she got closer to the century turn. Fooled myself.
