Stephane Grappelli (who was born in Paris, France on the 26th of January, 1908) was a French jazz violinist who played in one of the first all-string jazz bands with guitar great Django Reinhardt. Their band, Quintette du Hot Club de France, was highly acclaimed when they made their debut in 1934.

He has been called the 'grandfather of jazz violinists', playing swing and continental jazz styles of music.

He travelled extensively around the world, touring and playing concerts even in his eighties.

He is credited with having recorded over ninety albums in his illustrious career.

Sadly, he died in his native city of Paris at the age of 89 on 1st of December, 1997.
