ZIMASSET is an economic blueprint for which country in Southern Africa?

ZIMASSET is an acronym for Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Social Economic Transformation. An economic blueprint authored by the Zimbabwe government as a road map for economic transformation. The blueprint is supported by four clusters as follows: 1) Food security and nutrition 2) infrastructure development 3) Education 4) Defence and security.

After years of economic meltdown and drought, the government of Zimbabwe came with this roadmap to guide its developmental efforts so that they do not loose direction. All the 26 ministries fall under any one of these clusters depending on their operations. The two Vice Presidents take an oversight role of the clusters as directed by the president and report to cabinet from time to time.

Under the Food security and Nutrion cluster as an example, the government undertook the command agriculture concept, where willing farmers voluntarily farmed under government supervision after receiving inputs and deliver the harvest to government run Grain Marketing Board. The exercise was overly subscribed and successful in the just ended agricultural season.

What was not stated was that the economic meltdown was self inflicted by the regime of Robert Mugabe & came about largely through systemic corruption & race based land grabs which saw the most productive farms in Zimbabwe handed over to friends & allies of Mugabe & most of the other farms expropriated & destroyed, bringing famine to the people of a country that was formerly a nett exporter of food.

Keith Richard Mears, Yes, you beat me to it. I'll add merely one more piece of info. Re the "years of ... drought," The region is naturally arid except for the rainy season. The farmers driven out by Mugabe had made the land productive through irrigation projects that harnessed and made use of the rains. Mugabe's cronies failed to follow through with those irrigation projects.
