I knew about Ella and Marilyn. The initial deal was that, if the Clubs hired Ella as a solo act, Marilyn would attend and be seated in the audience. The Club would then acquaint their patrons that Marilyn would be there, and they would "accidentally" hear Ella's act. That really started Ella's career as a solo artist.

Knew about the Ella & Marilyn friendship. Ella was a monumental song stylist. Marilyn was an icon not of her own making. Given the social situation, it must have been an interesting friendship.

Everyone knows Lewis & Tolkien were mates, they were part of a group called the inklings. Monroe & Fitzgerald is a surprise though. Both knew what it is to be excluded albeit for different reasons I suppose
