Brought back memories! Mercurochrome was used also before the 60’s. I was born in 1943 and I remember my mom putting it on my bobos all through my childhood. The alternative was iodine, but she preferred mercurochrome.

I was a child of the 60s & teen of the 70s I totally Loved bell bottoms ! Mom never would let me order the sea monkeys . I remember some of the older girls that I knew talk about ironing their hair . Also U didn't mention the Huge hair rollers of that era . I remember some older girls rolled their hair up on empty OJ cans . If they rolled it on these huge rollers like that it really straightened it out some with just a little curl under at the bottom -- these girls had hair down to their waist

I hadn’t heard of the sea monkeys. All those memories made me smile. Especially big hair. I never did iron my hair.

A lot of these trends crossed the decades eg: Barbie Dolls came on the scene as of March 9,1959 ( Barbie’s actual birthday) and wide legged pants also known as bell bottoms were big in the 1970’s.

I still find lava lamps very relaxing . Wish I had one or two at my home these days.

I work in a drug store: Mercurochrome (name on the bottle) still exist but it's mercury free. Chlorhexidine gluconate at 0.05% is use instead. Furthermore, we also sell Lava Lamp ! And wear wide legged pants all the time. ;-)

Mercurochrome was used on everything when I was growing up! We even put it in our mouths when we had a cankor sore! I remember that shiny red color on my knees all the time! It's amazing I'm still alive at 66! So many things back then were dangerous, but we some how survived!

I got ripped off by sea monies as a kid. And, you could still get mercurachrome in Australia in the 1980s, maybe even the 90s.

I still own about 5 pairs of bell bottoms, mostly Navy whites. People often ask me where they can buy them. Maybe they might come back in style one day.

Doris Dallaire, iodine stung more than mercurochrome. Probaly the reason our mothers prefered mercurochrome.

Mercurochrome might have been a dangerous product. It was also very efficient .

Vocabulary check-model airplanes as pictured were made with plastic and glue was used to construct the model airplane. One can still purchase them in some hobby stores. Many children, mostly boys, enjoyed making them and collecting them. Gliders on the other hand were usually three pieces of balsa wood. A couple of simple slots allowed the wings and tail to slide into the "fuselage". If one tossed it (not hard), it would glide in the air, inside or out. A good flight, if memory serves, could be 30 feet or so (memory because I tossed them through the fifties). The model airplanes (with motors that flew) are a whole different story. They were enjoyable also.
