The Hundertwasserhaus in Vienna isn't just known for it's gaily painted apartments - the outside is also on different angles, different levels, etc so it looks weird but at the same time stunning. There is a long queue of people who want to buy apartments there but very few come on to the market as the owners and tenants wouldn't want to live elsewhere. Also in Punta Arenas in Chile the town ordnance says all houses must be pointed in bright colours as winters are very long and bitter and the suicide rate is high so painting houses in bright colours is to try and counteract both.
