North America, due to its diverse nature, is home to gorgeous animals of all kinds, and birds living on the continent are not an exception. Let's meet these adorable feathered creatures.

#1 Northern cardinal

These mid-sized red birds live in southern eastern Canada, eastern United States, southern Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and Hawaii.

#2 Black-capped chickadee

The black-capped chickadee is the state bird of US states of Massachusetts and Maine, and the provincial bird of New Brunswick in Canada. They are usually not afraid of humans and can even eat from the hand.

#3 Baltimore oriole

These birds live in Canada and the USA. In the winter, they migrate to Mexico, Central America, and northern South America.

#4 Wood thrush

This passerine bird is well-known for its beautiful song. They also winter in Central America and Mexico.

#5 Peregrine falcon

The peregrine falcon is the fastest creature of the animal kingdom. This gorgeous bird can fly with the speed up to 242 mph (389 km/h).

#6 Bald eagle

The national bird of the USA is known for building the largest tree nests in the world, up to 13 ft (4 m) deep, 8.2 ft (2.5 m) wide, and 1.1 short tons (1 metric ton) in weight.

#7 Red-bellied woodpecker

These beautiful birds range as far south as Texas and as far north as Canada. Its name is misleading: the red-bellied woodpecker has a bright red head, but the red-headed woodpecker is another species.

#8 Violet-green swallow

Cute violet-green swallows are distributed along the west coast from Alaska to Mexico, extending as far east as Montana and Texas.

#9 Prothonotary warbler

The name of this bird derives from a Latin word meaning "protonotary", which was the name for a notary attached to the Byzantine court who wore golden yellow robes. Prothonotary warblers live in southeastern Ontario and eastern United States.

#10 Scissor-tailed flycatcher

These creatures are known for their amazing tails and are also called Texas birds-of-paradise.

Love cardinals and chickadees which are plentiful in my area. They come to my feeder all the time and I’m happy to keep them fed. Little chickadees get very tame and will eat from my hand, perch on my toque in winter, not afraid at all.

I have seen 8 of them in my County and nine of them in NY State. Violet-green Swallows I have seen in the NW but there is no record that I know of in this State so I guess that I'm doing good!
