An interesting research: we inherit our intelligence from our mothers not fathers

As it turned out, some scientists believe we now owe our intelligence (or lack of it) only to our mothers. Let's find out more about this recent research together.

Of course, a lot of things affect the development of our intelligence. Environmental factors, social interaction, culture, financial circumstances... Hereditary factors matter too. Have you ever heard this phrase,"Our child inherited your beauty and my brains"? A team of researchers suggest high IQ's are probably coming from our mothers only.

What do you think of such a theory? Do you believe hereditary factors really matter? Share your opinion with us in the comments!

My mother was incredibly intelligent. She taught me to be curious about everything. I followed her everywhere as a child. In every activity there was a science or history lesson to be taught or learned. My mother gave me a love of life long learning. Everything good about me began in some way with her. She was my mentor and best friend. I was very lucky.

If this true I should be really stupid...my mother had more good looks than brains. I have a masters degree in anesthesia......clearly this study is flawed!

That is not what he said, it is however, somewhat true. Your mother must not have been overly bright.

My mother was a pathological liar and I believe severely compromised intellectually. I don’t know how intelligent my biological father was.

This is not the case in my life. My mom, bless her heart, was the sweetest woman in the world but she was kind of ditzy. My dad was super smart and my sisters and I all take after him. As do my children.

Yes. I believe intelligence is inherited from the mother. My hypothesis is that intelligence is linked to the efficiency of oxidative phosphorylation that occurs in the mitochondria. The mothers egg contains the mitochondria the offspring receives

That's questionable when I was in my 20's I had a friend who's grandparents (all 4) were doctors, and parents were professors at a university Nice kid but he was as thick as a brick.

I believe it’s possible. My mother went to college in her fifties and earned a Bachelor degree. I myself went back to school when I was 42 and I earned a Bachelor degree and a Master’s degree

Which scientists figure this out? Since I am a mom of three incredibly intelligent people it’s probably true but I’d like more information on the source!

You're noting that "some scientists" have come to such a conclusion but you don't mention who or what percentage of scientists have this view. You also note that ONLY 40 - 60% of our intelligence is hereditary. Of course, 40 - 60% is a lot, and again, this is according to who? Be more specific and reference your sources if you want to have any credibility is what I think.

I believe there is new evidence showing that, yes, boys inherit their intelligence from their mothers, but, for daughters it is 50/50 from both parents.

I don't think this is really accurate. I have inherited some of my Dad's engineering talent. My Mom was very creative and I have some of that too, but I think it's more of the luck of the draw when it comes to what you inherit from who.

I always thought that intelligenge is absolutely random. After all, nobody heard of Leonardo, Newton, Bill Gates o Gauss parents, right? Mensa told me I have an IQ of 179, and I can assure you it didn't come to me by the maternal line. My father, was extremely intelligent, though.

If intelligence is in the X-chromosome, then our mother rules......
