Science Story: Science knows which feelings different kinds of alcohol provoke in us

"Maybe, this is alcohol speaking, but..." - perhaps, this phrase has never sounded more scientific. Find out about the results of the research made by British scientists.

They considered the consistent pattern of our emotions after drinking alcohol. And the type of drink is more important than its quantity.

Beer

This popular drink gives the feeling of satisfaction and peace in almost half of the cases. 44,5% respondents admitted they felt more confident and 25% felt a boost of energy. But the fits of the vapors are prevailing: more than 40% of beer drinkers soon get sluggish and the most emotional 10% can shed a tear.

Red wine

Weirdly, but most responders (60%) feel overt tiredness after some quantity of this alcoholic drink. More than a half reported the feeling of complete relaxation, and about a quarter become more self-assured and as a result profess interest to the opposite sex. This drink can be attributed to the most placatory ones: less than 3% felt aggressive after drinking it.

White wine

This kind of drink arouses rather vague emotions. It's a good relaxant - 33% respondents confessed, it gives self-belief (29%) and like red wine provokes a thirst for love affairs. This beverage is far from being the best energizer, as confirmed by only 15% of highly active respondents. At the same time, tiredness and apathy are also a rare case after taking this drink.

Strong alcohol

Hard liquors give the strongest effect. More than a half of the surveyed turn into energetic (58%), determined and super confident(59%) people without any doubt about their hotness (42%). Beware of side effects! 48% (almost a half!) of strong alcohol lovers suffer from qualms, a bit less (30%) feel discomfort and anxiety and 22% look for a shoulder to cry on.

I find that many people who drink hard liquor become aggressive and actively look for fights or disagreements.

I was a cocktail waitress and saw that women who ordered scotch, always wore at least a little bit of red. Men that drank gin were likely to get into fights. Any man who ordered Jack & Coke was invariably underage, but the women who ordered it wound up dancing on the tables! It was a lively bar.

Peaple drink alcohol more 1000+ years and never was in poison list.(the same as smoke tobaco)

This says much more about the kinds of people who gravitate toward the different drinks than is does different kinds of reactions that different forms of alcohol evoke. The alcohol in each case has the same chemical composition!

My ex-husband usually drank beer, and he was very mellow. He then started drinking a shot of Sambuca every now and then. Whenever he had the Sambuca, he turned into the nastiest SOB on the planet! One shot was all it took.
