What should you never microwave?

WATER. Don’t freaking try to heat up water in the microwave for tea/coffee or whatever reason.

When you heat water on a pan over a stove top it starts to bubble. Bubbles releases the energy which the water stores during heating up. Thus the water maintains the boiling temperature.

When you heat the same water in a microwave, it does not boil. So it does not release the energy. The water quickly can cross the boiling temperature to a state called superheated water. When you take out the mug of water from the microwave if you see the surface is too still, maybe the water is superheated.

If you drop something in that water before it releases some energy, you can get a little blast of hot water which can easily burn you.

See this nice video demonstrating it:

I’ve boiled water in my microwave & wait for about 45 seconds before I put anything in it. Never had problems with that method.

I once boiled water in the microwave and added the box of pasta Roni directly to the pot and yes it did have a series reaction, I super boiled right up to my hand and wrist and burnt it pretty bad!!! Info is accurate.

I make tea in a cup in the microwave with no problem, but it is always good to learn about something like this.

Pure water in a clean cup can do that. However, if there is something in the water (tea bag, milk, impurities etc), or a cup which is not as clean, there is rarely any problem.

innflyte, on-line, you can find many recipes for cooking eggs in microwave ovens. 1 minute poached egg for example. Though in mine 50 seconds if I want soft.

Janice Mitchell Woodward, I think I've seen that, too, trying to speed up tea water...maybe I over-boiled it for just too long, but I have seen water--and other liquids--boil in there!

I don't know how they did that trick, I boiled plenty of water to make tea while I was waiting for a new kettle to be delivered, never had that happen.

I thought the answer to the question would be frozen foods in aluminum foil containers. I've heated small amounts of water in the microwave for years instead of putting it in a kettle and waiting for it to boil.
