Why is your reflection upside down in a spoon?
It's one of those everyday things most of us have wondered about at least once – but never learnt the answer. If you still don't know why you see your reflection upside down, find out now.
It's all about light, which travels in parallel lines
A spoon is concave, which makes light rays bounce back at a different angle:
The light rays which fall at the top of the spoon get reflected downwards, while the rays which fall at the bottom get reflected upwards. The same goes for left and right, that's why you see yourself upside down:
Anyway, there is a focal point, where all these rays meet:
